Your Wedding Planning Checklist

Adelaide Wedding Photographer – Adelaide Weddings

Planning a wedding can seem overwhelming, I know, but everything comes down to one word. ORGANISATION.

From the time you decide to set a budget and put your finances in order, until the week you touch base with every single supplier, being organised and executing tasks in a timely and strategic manner will not only save you lots of headaches but will allow you to be present in every stage of your wedding journey.

As a wedding photographer, I have worked at many weddings myself, and I am luckily surrounded by great people who also have. I also got married in December 2020 and picked up a few other tips along my planning process.

I have broken down the process in 5 different stages. I learnt that I couldn’t plan everything at once and that for my own and my husband’s sanity we were better taking this wedding business one step at a time.

This list helped me a lot, and it will also help you.

stage one: 12+ months

  • Set your budget

  • Create a wedding email address

  • Determine if you would like to elope or have a formal wedding

  • Decide on your wedding party

  • Draft a guest list

  • Pick and secure your wedding venue

  • Select and secure your photographer and videographer

stage two: 9+ months

  • Choose and secure your celebrant or church

  • Register your intention to get married

  • Find your wedding attires

  • Organise your caterer

  • Book your cake

  • Hire your DJ/ Band/ Acoustic Singer

  • Book Florist

stage three: 6+ months

  • Book hair and makeup

  • Order your invites, name cards and other stationery

  • Plan the service and ceremony

  • Find wedding party attires

  • Decide on your honeymoon

stage four: 4+ months

  • Send out save the date cards

  • Agree on food and music

  • Plan your wedding rehearsal

  • Start the dress fitting

  • Decide on petals, bubbles or any other elements you would like right after the ceremony

stage five: 6-4 weeks

  • Send wedding invites

  • Arrange wedding favours and wishing well

  • Order gifts for the wedding party

  • Adjust timeline

  • Check in with the venue

  • Decide on a seating chart or cocktail distribution

  • Order your welcome sign

  • Start breaking into the shoes

  • Confirm RSVPs

  • Touch base with your photographer and videographer about the timeline and final details

On the last couple of weeks leading to your big day, try to take some time off from work or get mum and dad to give you an extra hand with the kids and the dogs. Have a list with all the suppliers involved in your wedding and touch base with them in case you need to finalise any further details.

My final recommendation is to have a wedding coordinator on the day. If it is within your means, hire a professional who can guide you through the process and lift a load off your shoulders. Or at least, name one of your close friends and family in this position. You don’t want to be running up and down on the day making sure everyone is meant to be where they are supposed to, rearranging flowers, signs, directing guests… you get the picture.

As for the actual pictures, If you are perhaps getting married in Adelaide, Australia or some other breathtaking destination and I happen to be your wedding photographer, rest assured that I will be by your side guiding you and holding your hand when necessary; and well, creating the wedding photos that will adorn the walls of your home and the generations to come.

Your wedding is one of the biggest days in your life, plan everything well in advance and allow yourself to enjoy it and most importantly, be fully present.
